Against Me! is awesome and their latest album Transgender Dysphoria Blues (Amazon Link), is just as great. This is their first album since Laura Jane Grace’s public coming out as transgender and you can hear a myriad of conflicting emotions as the album plays.
I saw Against Me! this past May at Rams Head Live and it was probably the best show I have ever been to. The energy of the band and the crowd was celebratory, explosive, and entirely infectious. The bumps and bruises I woke up to the next day were a happy reminder of the revelry from the night before.
Against Me! played the 9:30 Club with twopointeight and The Gaslight Anthem this past week and I brought a camera with me. I didn’t request a photo pass for this show as I wanted to be in the pit (which LJG commended me on, post-show) to be in the middle of the excitement. The show was just as amazing as I had anticipated. Setlist (they opened with my favorite track!).
All shots were taken with a Fuji x100s attached to a Blackrapid RS-7 strap (best strap ever), which actually held up surprisingly well in the pit. The small form factor of the camera let me pull it up in the cramped area I was in and I was able to let it hang off my strap without hitting anyone with it.
