Scena Theater (website/Facebook/tickets) is one of my favorite clients. I’ve had the pleasure of covering their past three productions (The Norwegians, Shining City and Handbag) and recently covered their newest, a wildly funny genderbent take on Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. Directed by Robert McNamara and featuring two time Helen Hayes Award winner Nanna Ingvarsson, Brian Hemmingsen (Helen Hayes Award nominee, twice), Danielle Davy, Bob Sheire, Graham Pilato, David Bryan Jackson, Ellie Nicoll, Amie Cazel, and Mary Suib, The Importance of Being Earnest definitely should not be missed. The reverse-gender casting is perfect and adds a layer of humor and thought to the play. Props to Michael Stepowany (Set Design/ Tech Director), Marianne Meadows (Light Design), Alisa Mandel (Costume Design), Denise Renee (Sound Design), Kate Kilbane (Stage Manager), Michelle Taylor (Asst. Stage Manager), and Lena Salins (Production Manager), really great job.
Don’t just take my word for it – here’s a great review by John Stoltenberg of DCMetroTheaterArts: ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ at Scena Theatre.
